At the track – Saturday 24 September 2011

CAULFIELD (SIR RUPERT CLARKE STAKES G1 DAY)

Race 1:

No. 7 – NERIANI (C. Williams)

This four-year old mare is yet to miss a placing from 6 starts (3-1-2). Neriani is a last start winner at Sandown midweek who will find this a tougher affair, but has won at the track (CAULF) and over the distance (1100m).

Race 2:

No. 10 – OUR MISS JONES (G. Boss)

Our Miss Jones is still a maiden but a win is not far away. Missed the start last time out in a listed event and then was held up. Glen Boss jumps on board. She has a big chance to claim her first win here in a tough race.

Race 3:

No. 4 – CARNERO (L. Currie)

This lightly raced six-year old from the Binaisse stable won by half a length last time out at the valley. In-form and will again be hard to beat in a race without many chances.

Race 4:

No. 2 – INDIKATOR (M. Zahra)

Kiwi gelding who ran well (second) to Light Vision; finished the race of well after several weeks off after a win in NZ. Has been placed previously at Caulfield and will be among the main contenders.

Race 5:

No. 12 – CROSS OF GOLD (D. Oliver)

Watch the replay if you can. This David Hayes trained colt went back and on the turn was still at the rear and forced to go very wide whereas the winner (Golden Archer) stuck to the rails – credit to the jockey aboard. The 7 furlongs will suit Cross of Gold and is a strong chance in a very even and tough affair.

Race 6:

No. 14 – DREAMAWAY (W. Pike) – BEST VALUE! (pictured)

I selected this four-year old mare when she stepped out in the Sofitel at Flemington. In that race (again, watch the replay!) she never saw light down the entire straight – never got a crack. She has reportedly worked very well since and is my tip in a race with some prominent gallopers including Smart Missile. Did I mention that you should watch the replay?

Race 7:

No. 9 – CHOSEN TO FLY (G. Boss)

Racing well since returning from Queensland. Won at Flemington before running third in a listen Caulfield race.

Race 8:

No. 8 – MIDNIGHT MARTINI (N. Hall) – BEST BET!

No luck last start in the G2 Stocks Stakes at the valley. Steps up to the 1800m here – I can’t see anything beating her. Zauberin (no. 3) and Stole (no. 4) to run second and third.

ROSEHILL

Race 6:

No. 3 – SECRET ADMIRER (B. Avdulla)

G1 winner who is third up here and should be too good for a few of these smart ones. Watch for the Gai Waterhouse Descarado (no. 1) to be flying home – the fiver-year old gelding has won two recent trials.

MORPHETTVILLE

Race 2:

No. 8 – ARCTIC FLIGHT (P. Gatt)

Mick Price trained three-year old who won by a neck at Geelong on September 9. Sure to have improved since and will be hard to beat.
