Committed to take next step towards the Victoria Derby on Saturday

Cranbourne based trainer Cindy Alderson has a strong chance of claiming a winning double at Caulfield this weekend when she saddles up the six-year old Sea Galleon (2000m D’Urban Naturalism Stakes) and the exciting three-year old Committed (1700m Le Pine Funerals Handicap).

Speaking with Cameron Larkin from CameronLarkin.com Thursday morning, Alderson said the Galileo (IRE) gelding has come on well since his last start fourth over the 2000m at Flemington. The 2011 LR Christmas Cup winner has been entered for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups as well as the Cox Plate and the AJC Metropolitan Handicap in Sydney in early October. However Sea Galleon’s main aim is likely to be the Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield.

“I’m unsure about Sydney from a condition standpoint. He lost a lot of weight last time on the trip to Sydney, so we’ll assess after this weekend and instead of going to the Metropolitan, the Herbert Power may be the right option”, Alderson said.

The daughter of prominent trainer Colin who threw the saddle across many a star galloper including the 1999 Caulfield Cup winner Sky Heights, has the highly promising Committed as an odd-son favourite in the second of the day. From her Cranbourne stable Alderson was enthused about the gelding’s prospects.

“The Victoria Derby is the plan, similar to the path Sky Heights took. Time will tell how good he will be. The indication is that Committed won’t find the distance a problem, 2000m and beyond I believe won’t phase him. “This is his first campaign though thus it is hard to predict”, Alderson remarked.

Alderson believes Committed will go onto be a superior racehorse than the classy black type winner That’s The One.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he turn’s out to be better. Committed has a greater arsenal, he is sensible and more versatile and we can do more with him. That’s The One needs the barrier blanket, he’s slow out of the barriers and then he’s behind the eight ball”, Alderson said.

“We’ve been patient with Committed and lucky to have an owner that has given him the time. That patience has allowed his legs to settle and I’m sure we’re about to reap the benefits”, Alderson added.

Committed is the odds-on favourite and will jump at 12.35EST with Craig Williams aboard.

Sea Galleon runs at 4.40EST: Nick Hall takes the ride at 10-1.
